Summary of the project idea
Four countries will work together to take a live picture of our Europe and will develop teaching/learning strategies. The general aim of the project is to reinforce the concept of being part of a union of countries; therefore we will use English as a lingua franca and for this reason we will motivate our students to improve their language skills. The use of new technologies such as Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) or Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) in teaching and learning will be fostered.
Our students are quite familiar with the digital world and we want to use this in order to enhance their learning process and to reinforce their digital skills. It's our intention to teach them how to learn using topics such as citizenship, multiculturalism, belief, common language. Students can have access to information related to European countries from the Internet, BUT we are convinced that getting the same information first hand from „European mates” will be different, will be more motivating, will help our students to integrate better among themselves and accept differences among people. Through this project we want to show the way Europe is and find out common points and views European students aged 12-16 share. We want our students to feel very close developing this project. That's why we want them to use the new technologies like a VLE through which they can be in constant communication and talk about their real lives. This virtual meeting place is close to the students, close to their reality, letting them know that European students are more similar than they think despite their differences. WE want to give them the opportunity to discover Europe by themselves, being an active part of it, as we believe they will be able to learn more and better in a peer relationship.
